The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) has come out tops in the 2011 Public Service Excellence Awards, where it won gold for sector excellence in the legal sector category.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) was placed second and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) third. The awards ceremony was held on 31 January.

In a press release, CCMA director, Nerine Kahn, said that at the awards’ inception in 2009 the CCMA won gold in the same category, with the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) and the SAHRC as runners-up, receiving the silver and bronze awards respectively. In 2010 the CCMA came in second place, receiving the silver award; gold was won by the SABS and third place went to the NPA.
