The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) released a statement through the Office of the Chief Justice that it will postpone interviews, which were to be held from 20 to 24 April, indefinitely. This comes amid the lockdown that was announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on 23 March and the uncertainty caused by COVID-19.
On 15 November 2019 the JSC published notices in the media calling for nominations to fill 14 vacancies in various superior courts. The closing date for the submission of nominations was set for 13 December 2019. On 7 February, the Screening Committee of the JSC met with and compiled a short list of candidates who were to be interviewed in the April sitting.
