The South African Chapter of International Association of Women Judges has released a statement announcing that its President and the President of the Supreme Court of Appeal, Justice Mandisa Maya, has been appointment as Chancellor of the University of Mpumalanga. Justice Maya succeeds, President Cyril Ramaphosa as his term in the position of chancellor came to an end on 30 June 2021. Justice Maya will hold the position until 1 July 2025. She was also recently conferred with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by the University of Fort Hare.
Meanwhile, the South African Judiciary has released a statement on the appointment of Deputy Judge President of the Northern Cape Division of the High Court, Mmathebe Violet Phatshoane, as the new Chairperson of the Sol Plaatje University Council. Judge President Phatshoane, succeeds, Justice Yvonne Mokgoro and will lead the council until April 2025.
