The Law Society of South Africa’s Legal Education and Development (LEAD) division hosted a group of LLM students from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago at its offices in Sunnyside, Pretoria in March. The students – whose studies include comparative United States and South African constitutional and human rights law – were on a field trip to South Africa as part of their course in comparative human rights. A lecture was arranged for the visitors by Professor Danie Brand, a senior lecturer in the department of public law at the University of Pretoria, who focuses on administrative law and socio-economic rights. Photographed with the Chicago students are their lecturers, Professor Danielle Hirsh and Professor Steven Schwinn in front, with the manager of the law society’s School for Legal Practice in Pretoria, Ursula Hartzenberg.
