The Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development granted an extension to the deadline for written comments on the Legal Practice Bill (LPB) past the original date of 27 July 2012 after the Law Society of South Africa (LSSA) and the General Council of the Bar (GCB) jointly submitted a request for an extension. At the time of this issue going to print, the portfolio committee had not set a new deadline for comments.
In the meantime, throughout August, the LSSA LPB Task Team and council continued to refine the LSSA’s submissions. The LSSA also held further meetings with the GCB in order to seek common ground.
