The Legal Practitioners Development Fund (the Fund) previously known as the Attorneys Development Fund, has thanked the Law Society of South Africa (LSSA) for its continuous support. This was said by the Fund’s Chairperson, Mashudu Kutama, at their Annual General Meeting (AGM) that was held on 27 March 2021 in Johannesburg. Mr Kutama also spoke on a possible partnership with the LSSA on a project that the Fund is looking into, by assisting young legal practitioners with their auditing. He, however, added that they will still need to engage with the LSSA regarding plans to assist young legal practitioners with compliance.
Mr Kutama said that the Fund is happy with the fact that beneficiaries of the Fund appreciate the money they are getting from the Fund, this was after a beneficiary who had previously received funds from the Fund and after paying it back, re-applied for more funding. At the AGM, the members of the Fund, resolved to have the current board members continue as the board, until such time as the members of the Fund, namely – the Black Lawyers Association, the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL), the Legal Practice Council, the LSSA and the Legal Practitioners’ Fidelity Fund elect the new board. NADEL member, Mfana Gwala, told the board that the members of the Fund appreciate the good work that the board has been doing, in making sure that the Fund’s money is used where it should be, by making sure the money goes to beneficiaries who need assistance.
