Law Society of South Africa (LSSA) Co-chairpersons Max Boqwana and Ettienne Barnard and CEO Nic Swart met with Public Protector Advocate Thuli Madonsela in May to reiterate the support of the LSSA and the attorneys’ profession for the work of the Office of the Public Protector.

The LSSA undertook to –

  • canvass attorneys to provide services to the Office of the Public Protector at reduced fees;
  • find attorneys to assist on a pro bono basis with specific cases identified by the Public Protector as requiring such assistance; and
  • provide relevant training for staff and trainees at the Office of the Public Protector.

The LSSA Co-chairpersons and the Public Protector agreed that both the institutions had a responsibility to support and protect the Constitution and promote good governance.
